Rank 96. Hazeldean Bakery's cinnamon buns and their apple fritters are exactly what fried dough should be: crispy on the outside, and light and fluffy on the inside. With donuts poised as the next big trend, expect to see some $5 donuts that cannot hold a candle to the $1.25 fresh-made daily offerings from this humble south-side neighbourhood bakery.
Triple Dip: Three places to satisfy your craving for a fresh doughnut

This tiny, faded store, which looks more like a movie set than anything we are used to seeing in the Tim Hortons dominated landscape, has been in the south side community for some 40 years. Proprietor Lucy Lu puts out a small selection of standards daily, from a raspberry bismarck to a plain glazed. Lu, a chemist by training, bought the shop several years ago and has tinkered with the recipes to try to make them less sweet. It seems to be working. The doughnuts are delicious, without leaving a guilty lump in the belly. $0.85 each
Warm and fresh from the oven each day, redolent with cinnamon and sticky enough to require multiple napkins, the square-shaped, pull-apart buns at this tiny, south-side bakery are really worth the trip. Owner Lucy Lu was a chemistry teacher in China before taking over the shop, then honed her baking skills at T & T and Bee Bell before venturing out on her own. The bakery is open six days a week (closed Sundays) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

This is a little gem, wonderful family run joint that sticks to the basics.
Top 3 Items are Apple fritters, Chocolate chip cookies, and Banana Bread
The cinnamon buns are the best when they are super fresh, otherwise they can get dry quickly.
Open Monday - Saturday, and you can order a head. Great prices

My goodness, heard of this neighbourhood bakery before, 1st visit this week
Unbelievable homemade style, focus on quality, health and taste. I got a taste of each type of bread slices. Exactly like just out of the oven! Also some special treats, not as sweet as other major brand bakery. That is exactly what I and my family want. I have to reserve my kid's birthday cake from Lucy's Sweets. Thank you Lucy's Sweets for the quality bakery in Hazeldean!
